Clare village crowned Ireland's friendliest town in national poll
Ennistymon has topped a readers' poll run by a national travel publication naming Ireland's friendliest town, with residents praised in particular for the warmth of their welcome to visitors and to newcomers settling in the area.
What tipped the vote
The poll, which drew thousands of responses from both domestic travellers and overseas visitors, asked readers to nominate towns based on hospitality, helpfulness, and general atmosphere rather than scenery or amenities alone. Several respondents specifically praised shopkeepers and publicans in Ennistymon for going out of their way to help visitors with directions, recommendations, and even lifts when public transport was scarce.
A town used to welcoming strangers
Local business owners say the result reflects a long-standing culture in the town, which sits on a well-travelled route to the Cliffs of Moher and has hosted generations of visitors passing through. Several newer residents, including a handful who moved to the area during the pandemic, cited the same sense of welcome as a reason for staying.
